CONNECT WITH THE JUNIOR SCHOOL


Welcome back to Term 4! We have hit the ground running, enjoying our first few weeks together learning about how plants grow, starting our own school gardens, having fun with Big Writes, and preparing for the Art Show which was a terrific success. Thank you to all families who were able to spend time viewing and hearing about the amazing art that students have created with Mrs Unwin over the year, we are so proud of their creativity. Thank you to Angus & Aileen for their presentation about the harvesting, packing and marketing of fresh fruit and vegetables, the kids LOVED it and learned a lot!







IN THE JUNIOR SCHOOL WE ARE LEARNING TO: (WALT)...



READING – WEEK 1

F: Explore the different contribution of words and images to meaning in stories and informative texts (VCELA145)

1: Compare different kinds of images in narrative and informative texts and discuss how they contribute to meaning (VCELA180)

2: Identify visual representations of characters’ actions, reactions, speech and thought processes in narratives, and consider how these images add to or contradict or multiply the meaning of accompanying words (VCELA215)



READING – WEEK 2

F: Recognise that texts are created by authors who tell stories and share experiences that may be similar or different to students’ own experiences (VCELT148). I can make connections between myself and the text. (VCELT148)

WRITING - WEEK 1 

F: Understand that punctuation is a feature of written text different from letters and recognise how capital letters are used for names, and that capital letters and full stops signal the beginning and end of sentences (VCELA156) I can write upper and lower case letters correctly most of the time

1: Recognise that different types of punctuation, including full stops, question marks and exclamation marks, signal sentences that make statements, ask questions, express emotion or give commands (VCELA190) I can - use full stops in my writing

2: Recognise that capital letters signal proper nouns and commas are used to separate items in lists (VCELA225) I can - use capital letters for proper nouns in my writing



WRITING - WEEK 2

F: Understand that language can be used to explore ways of expressing needs, likes and dislikes (VCELA166)

MATHS – WEEK 1:

F: understand place value of numbers to 50 and what it represents

1: understand place value of numbers to 100 and what it represents

MATHS – WEEK 2:

F: Establish understanding of the language and processes of counting by naming numbers in sequences, initially to and from 20, moving from any starting point (VCMNA069)

1: Develop confidence with number sequences to and from 100 by ones from any starting point. Skip count by twos, fives and tens starting from zero (VCMNA086)

2: Investigate number sequences, initially those increasing and decreasing by twos, threes, fives and ten from any starting point, then moving to other sequences (VCMNA103)

3: Recognise, model, represent and order numbers to at least 10 000



INQUIRY - YUMMY IN MY TUMMY:

Week 1 & 2: considering the suitability of a range of tools when cultivating gardens, mulching and building garden structures. Identifying products that can be designed and produced from plants
 

WELLBEING: 

Foundation: Students develop vocabulary to identify emotions. Students identify the ways in which emotions are shown in body language.

Grade 1 and 2: Students name some of the commonly experienced emotions. Students identify the ways in which emotions are shown in body language.



ICT:

F:  I can use a keyboard/touchpad to create a simple sentence using key words. I can use the keyboard i.e.use the delete, return, capslock button and space bar.

1/2: I can type in a specific web address to view information. I can use the delete, return, caps lock button and spacebar.

WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK

All parents/guardians, visitors & volunteers to the school MUST sign in & out of the school and display their WWCC in a lanyard, which is available at the school office. The Department of Education requires any person involved in an activity where children may be present to have a current WWCC or have supplied proof that they have applied for a WWCC with the Department of Justice. All schools are required to comply with the Working with Children Act 2005. Volunteers are expected to carry the WWCC card with them at all times when working or volunteering at the school or during school related activities. There is no fee for this check. Please see your child's teacher if you are able to assist.
