Junior School Newsletter: Term 1, Week 3
CONNECT WITH THE JUNIOR SCHOOL
Learning and Teaching

Welcome back to the start of a new and exciting term! We especially welcome new families to Mentone Park. We would like to thank all parents for a smooth start to the term, your support and encouragement from home has supported a smooth transition in our classrooms. 'Discovery Time' in the mornings has been a hit with our students, and we look forward to providing many more opportunities to foster their curiosity and engagement throughout the year.

The Junior School would like to thank all members of the Mentone Park Community for the support and kindness they have shown to staff and students during a time that is very difficult for all of us.
 
IN THE JUNIOR SCHOOL WE ARE LEARNING TO: (WALT)...

Writing:  
Week 2: We are learning to recount events with a focus on who, what, where, when, and how
Week 3: We are learning to understand the structure of a narrative. Prep - We are learning how to form letters.

Spelling: 
Week 2: 'a' as in ant (G1), 'ai' as in train (G2), 'a' as in /a/ (Prep)
Week 3: ‘y’ as in ‘fly’ (G1), ‘ur’ as in ‘fur’ (G2), ‘c’ as in /c/ (Prep)

Reading: 
Week 2: We are learning to make predictions based on clues in the text
Week 3: We are learning to visualise using pictures to help us understand what is in a story.

Maths:  
Week 2/3: We are learning to make and order numbers (G1: 2 digits, G2: 3-4 digits)

UNIT OF STUDY - WELLBEING:
Explore actions that help make the classroom a healthy, safe and active place. Describe ways to include others to make them feel that they belong

ICT: Identify and explore digital systems (hardware and software components) for a purpose

IMPORTANT NOTICES
YOGA! Starting Monday 20th February, our students will be participating in the Yoga program and it will run every Monday for 5 weeks.

MEET THE TEACHER is on February 22nd from 2pm-7pm. If you were unable to book a time, please see your classroom teacher directly to arrange another time.

Working With Children Check
All parents/guardians, visitors & volunteers to the school MUST sign in & out of the school and display their WWCC in a lanyard, which is available at the school office. The Department of Education requires any person involved in an activity where children may be present to have a current WWCC or have supplied proof that they have applied for a WWCC with the Department of Justice. All schools are required to comply with the Working with Children Act 2005.
Volunteers are expected to carry the WWCC card on their person at all times when working or volunteering at the school or during school related activities. There is no fee for this check. Apply now by visiting: www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au
